Freshman Alex Roos burst onto the
Colorado College hockey scene this season, and has been taking the rink by
storm. While we all know that number 28 has been a huge asset to our hockey
team, staff writer Nila Horner sat down with Alex to get a little more personal and chat about how it feels to
score a goal, role models, and “The Bachelor”.
Having only been at CC for a few
months, Alex has wowed everyone by already scoring four goals for the Tigers.
“It’s very cool being in front of all your peers and classmates, helping our
team to victory. It’s amazing when you see people you are in class with
cheering you on, and the support is great. When I score, and see the stadium
light up, it’s a surreal feeling. You dream of scoring an amazing goal growing
up, and it’s a crazy feeling you have when it happens with the crowd cheering
you on,” Alex remarked about being on the ice.
While CC has been quite an
adjustment from the suburbs of Chicago, Alex is enjoying his time here at CC so
far. “Going to the rink every day and being around the guys on the team has
been a great experience. The guys on the team have become my best friends, my
second family. When it’s time to get serious, we work hard together, but we
also enjoy having fun together and sharing laughs and jokes.”
Playing hockey has its ups and
downs, but Alex personally enjoys being able to meet fans and having the
ability to make someone’s day better. “I had a child e-mail me last year while
playing junior league hockey saying that he had to do a hero project for
school. While most kids chose their dad’s, this guy chose me- a local hockey
player. I went to one of his games to watch him play, and met with him
afterwards and signed a stick for him. Just to see his face light up made me
feel so good. My presence meant the world to that kid, and I enjoy having the
ability to improve someone’s day just by doing something simple.”
“I appreciate being a role model, but
I also want people to realize that I’m just like them. I play video games, do
homework, and eat lunch in the cafeteria, just like them.” Off the ice, Alex
admits, “I watch ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’, and I watch “The Bachelor
and The Bachelorette. It’s embarrassing but I have to own up to it.”
While Alex
enjoys his free time, he cannot wait to continue playing for the CC Tigers.
“I’m just going to keep trying to get better every day. I’m going to continue
have confidence and faith in myself and in my team. I’ll just do what I’m
capable of and try my hardest to help bring the CC Tigers to victory.”
